Red cell antigen data were used to investigate the genetic relationships among the Native American populations and their affinities with Siberian and Eastern Asian populations. Correspondence analysis showed a clear subdivision of all Native American populations into three clear-cut clusters corresponding to the three linguistic families (identified by Greenberg) — Amerind, Na-Dene and Eskimo-Aleut. This result, as well as the close genetic resemblance between the Eskimos and the Asian populations, support the conclusion that the Americas were populated during at least three distinct and subsequent migration waves of people coming from Asia.
