The terracotta figurines presented in this article form part of the Collection of Antiquities housed at the British school at Athens. This group of terracottas includes pieces that are extremely heterogeneous with regard to their provenance, typology, manufacture and chronology (7th c. BC- 4th c. AD). The majority of the terracotta figurines originate from private collections (those of G. Finlay, H. Payne-J. Dunbabin, G. Empedokles). However, there is a small group within the Collection that consists of pieces found at different times by British archaeologists working in Greece and some coming from excavations or surveys carried out in different areas of the Mediterranean world (Egypt, Asia Minor, Cyprus).
