A satellite system for land mobile applications to be integrated with terrestrial cellular systems is described. The concept of cellular architecture is applicable to the proposed satellite system allocated at Extremely High Frequencies. Coverage flexibility and remarkable spectrum efficiency are consequent advantages. Criteria for service availability determination are presented, along with a system design overview. The challenging technological requirements for the on-board payload and for the user terminal are pointed out and some possible solutions are described
