Background: Palliative cancer patients experience a complex clinical picture. Research shows little correlation between nurses’ impressions of the patient’s symptoms and the patient’s experience of their own symptoms. National guidelines recommend the use of screening tools to chart and evaluate the patient’s symptoms systematically. Objective: The objective of the study is to elucidate palliative cancer patients’ self-reporting of symptoms on admission to and discharge from a palliative care unit.
