Experiential learning and industry placements are becoming increasingly popular in undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. As Reynolds (2009: 389) states:experiential learning does offer the possibility of learning that is connected to work and to professional endeavour, and the possibility of ideas being developed through that which can be observed or experienced. And it does assume a less hierarchical interpretation of authority in that learning is derived from dialogue with peers as well as from researchers, teachers and the written word, albeit a process informed by the interrogation, critique and application of ideas in the public domain
