Young people in East London are more likely to not be in employment, education or training and suffer particularly from labour market exclusion in comparison to their peers in the rest of London. This chapter will explore post-16 transitions in East London within the social policy context of urban regeneration delivered through a myriad of government-led initiatives, not least the London 2012 Olympic project. Lastly, it will review the post-2012 Olympic austerity climate of Conservative-Liberal Coalition Government cuts to public sector expenditure; and in particular present a case study outlining how these cuts have impacted upon young people’s services in one East London (2012 Olympic Host) Borough.
