Some ideas tend to appear, disappear, then return again in slightly different form (Sicard\u27s ciphers and Barry’s five slates, for example). Other concepts that were considered quite modem have been proposed generations ago. It seems to prove that the history of the deaf is evolutionary rather than revolutionary in nature. But the plight of the deaf will always continue to move farther from the memory of ignorance and superstition with which society had so long associated them
