The spiders are oviparous, they lay their eggs in a cluster covered by one or several layers of silk threads forming a sac. The amount of eggs inside of the egg sac depends on the spider species and secondarily on the mother's diet. These sacs protect eggs from adverse environmental conditions and fungal attack; however, they are ineffective against some insects. Argiope argentata is a species of Araneidae that is distributed from the United States to Chile and Argentina, is relatively large and easily recognizable by its coloration, genitalia and characteristic shape of the abdomen.
