A Diabetic Type 2 Patient Education for Interacting Combinations by a Pharmacist:A Case Study

Diabetes mellitus is a clinical syndrome characterized by either relative loss or complete loss of insulin production. There are three main types of diabetes, type 1, 2 and Gestational diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is characterized by relative loss of insulin and is also called insulin non-dependent diabetes mellitus and mostly occurs at the age more than 30 years. The symptoms and complications are enormous and most frequently occurs that’s why proper treatment and patient counseling is required. The experts of drugs are Pharmacists, WHO documented that these experts are care giver in “Seven star Pharmacist” and can effectively educate the patients as well as providing pharmaceutical care. Pharmacists use their expertise related to every aspect of the drugs and drug interaction is their main target, drug interaction is an umbrella word and is further divided into drug-drug, drug-food and drug-herbal interactions. For these interactions a Pharmacist generated a guideline to collect and analyze the patient data regarding these interactions in order to patient get desire therapeutic outcome. This case study conducted by a Pharmacist for 50 years diabetic type 2 patient and proposed some counseling and education tips for rational therapeutic outcome.
