DIVERSIDAD, ESTRUCTURA Y COMPOSICIÓN DE LAS ESPECIES LEÑOSAS DE LA SELVA MEDIANA SUBCADUCIFOLIA DEL PUNTO DE UNIÓN TERRITORIAL (PUT) DE YUCATÁN, MÉXICO

This research was conducted at theTerritorial Union Point (PUT), south ofTekax, Yucatan, Mexico. The aim of thisstudy was to determine the composition ofwoody species, to characterize the verticaland horizontal structure and quantifythe diversity of woody species in semideciduous forest. 0.1 ha were sampled bythe quadrats method and recorded all woody species ≥ 1.0 cm DBH and ≥ 1.5 m tall. Asa result of the present study, 103 specieswere recorded for 0.1 ha, with the familiesFabaceae, Euforbiaceae, Rubiaceae andFlacourtiaceae with the highest number ofspecies. The species with highest relativeimportance value were: Caesalpiniagaumeri, Manilkara zapota, Burserasimaruba, Croton reflexifolius, Piscidiapiscipula, Gymnopodium floridundum andTalisia olivaeformis. We used the diversityindex of Shannonn-Wiener and floristicsimilarity was assessed with Morisita’sindex, being 4.2 of diversity and 0.8evenness. 25 species endemic. The PUTpresents greater plant diversity than otherNatural Protected Areas (PNA’s) and evengreater number of endemic species. Ata comparative level with other nationalgeographical areas, the PUT is among therichest ones in woody species (second inspecies richness). Our results suggest thatthis area should be declared as a protectedarea because of the high plant diversity.La presente investigación fue realizadaen el Punto de Unión Territorial (PUT),al sur del municipio de Tekax, Yucatán,México. El objetivo de este trabajo fuedeterminar la composición de especiesleñosas, caracterizar la estructura verticaly horizontal y cuantificar la diversidad delas especies leñosas de la selva medianasubcaducifolia. Se muestrearon 0.1 hamediante el método de cuadrantes y seregistraron las especies leñosas ≥ 1.0cm de DAP y ≥ 1.5 m de altura. Comoresultado de este estudio se registraron103 especies para 0.1 ha, las familiascon mayor número de especies fueron:Fabaceae, Euforbiaceae, Rubiaceae yFlacourtiaceae. Las especies con mayor valorde importancia relativa fueron: Caesalpiniagaumeri, Manilkara zapota, Burserasimaruba, Croton reflexifolius, Piscidiapiscipula, Gymnopodium floridundum yTalisia olivaeformis. Se empleó el índicede diversidad de Shannonn-Wiener y lasimilitud florística se valoró con el índicede Morisita, siendo 4.2 de diversidad y0.8 de equidad. Se registraron 25 especies endémicas. El PUT presenta una mayordiversidad vegetal que otras áreas naturalesprotegidas (ANP) estatales e incluso mayornúmero de especies endémicas. A nivelcomparativo con otras zonas geográficasnacionales, el PUT está entre las más ricas enespecies leñosas (segundo lugar en riquezade especies). Con el presente trabajo serecomienda que la zona cercana al PUT seapropuesta como un área natural protegidaestatal por presentar una alta diversidadvegetal
