ESTRUCTURA Y COMPOSICIÓN FLORÍSTICA DE LA SELVA MEDIANA SUBCADUCIFOLIA EN EL SUR DEL ESTADO DE YUCATÁN, MÉXICO

Nine sites totaling 1000 m2 were selectedfor testing in the tropical medium subdeciduous forest of southern Yucatan. Thewoody species encountered were identified and recorded. The diameter of eachspecimen at breast height (DAP) and theheight of all individuals with DAP ≥ 3 cmwere measured. The structure of each sitewas described based on relative values ofdensity, frequency and dominance as wellas the distribution of height and diameterclasses. Species diversity for each site wasestimated using the Shannon Wiener Index,and the floristic similarity between siteswas evaluated using the Morisita Index. Atotal of 128 species and 3 847 individuals≥ 3 cm were recorded. The families bestrepresented were Fabaceae (13 genera, 14species) and Rubiaceae (6 genera, 10 species). The genera with the largest number ofspecies were Diospyros and Lonchocarpus.The number of species per site varied from36 to 58, the majority of sites containingaround 47 to 48 species. Bursera simaruba,Croton reflexifolius, Diospyros cuneata andGymnanthes lucida presented the greatestdensity per hectare. The most importantspecies in the upper stratum (≥ 14 m) wereLysiloma latisiliquum, Gymnanthes lucida,Manilkara zapota, Thouinia paucidentata,Vitex gaumeri, and Bursera simaruba amongothers. The diameter classes demonstratedthat there existed sufficient individualsfor forest regeneration. The species thatshowed the greatest importance values wereGymnanthes lucida, Lysiloma latisiliquum,Bursera simaruba and Diospyros cuneata.The diversity values showed that site 7 wasthe tallest and site 5 the lowest with 3.5. Inaccordance with the index of similarity sites3 and 4 were most similar to one another,whereas sites 5 and 9 demonstrated thegreatest floristic disimilarity in comparisonto the rest.Se seleccionaron nueve sitios de muestreode 1000 m² en selva mediana subcaducifolia. La estructura de cada sitio sedescribió con base en los valores relativosde densidad, frecuencia y dominancia, asícomo la distribución de alturas y de las clases diamétricas. La diversidad de especiespara cada sitio se estimó con el índice deShannon Wiener. La similitud florística entrelos sitios se valoró con el índice de Morisita.Se registró un total de 128 especies y 3 847individuos ≥ 3 cm. Las familias mejor representadas a nivel de género y especies fueronFabaceae con 13 y 24, respectivamente,y Rubiaceae con 6 y 10. Los géneros conmayor número de especies son Diospyros yLonchocarpus. El número de especies porsitio varió de 36 a 58, la mayoría de los sitiostuvieron alrededor de 47 a 48 especies. Lasespecies que presentaron mayores densidades por hectárea fueron Bursera simaruba,Croton reflexifolius, Diospyros cuneata yGymnanthes lucida. Las especies importantes en el estrato superior (≥ 14 m) sonLysiloma latisiliquum, Gymnanthes lucida,Manilkara zapota, Thouinia paucidentata,Vitex gaumeri, Bursera simaruba, entreotras. Las clases diamétricas demuestran queexisten suficientes individuos para la regeneración de la selva mediana subcaducifolia.Las especies que mostraron mayor valorde importancia fueron Gymnanthes lucida,Lysiloma latisiliquum, Bursera simaruba yDiospyros cuneata. Los valores de diversidad mostraron que el sitio 7 fue el más altoy el sitio 5 fue bajo con 3.5. De acuerdo conel índice de similitud los sitios 3 y 4 fueronentre sí similares, mientras que los sitios 5 y9 muestran una mayor disimilitud florísticacon el resto
