Mexico is a major center of diversity of thegenus Bourreria but the identity and taxonomic status of several species werestill uncertain in the absence of revisions.The taxonomic account presented here isbased on morphology. It relies on extensivefield surveys of native populations and onthe study of relevant herbarium material.Original descriptions, nomenclatural types,selected synonymy, distribution and habitatrequirements are provided for each species.Comments and notes are added on variousaspects of the species.
