National Front : Classic Anti-Liberalism in The Name of Freedom

Este artículo analiza las transformaciones discursivas en el seno del principal partido de la extrema derecha francesa: el Frente Nacional. En concreto, se pretende mostrar cómo desde un anti-liberalismo de tipo clásico el FN estructura su discurso en torno a la reivindicación de la libertad. Nuestro objetivo es evidenciar cómo a partir de una posición cuyo fin es resustancializar la política en términos de pertenencia comunitaria, el FN enmarca su lucha en un combate por la libertad y en contra del totalitarismo con acentos liberales e ilustrados. Nuestra hipótesis de fondo sostiene que uno de los vectores de la estrategia de desdiabolización emprendida por el FN de Marine Le Pen pasa por recuperar y resignificar conceptos asociados a la revoluciones liberal y democrática, así como a la tradición humanista. Este trabajo analítico toma como base el conjunto de textos (símbolos, imágenes, discursos) que la formación ultraderechista produjo durante la campaña para las elecciones presidenciales de 2017.In this article I analyze the rhetorical changes implemented by the most important far-right party in France: the National Front (Le Front National). Specifically, I show how the FN combines classically anti-liberal views with a discourse that vindicates the value of freedom. My aim is to demonstrate how the National Front structures politics around community belonging, while framing its goals as a fight for freedom and against of totalitarianism. Our main hypothesis contends that one of the main axes of Marine Le Pen’s strategy to make the FN more acceptable involves recovering and giving a new meaning to the liberal and democratic revolutions, as well as to the humanist tradition.
