In this thesis, the basic principle operation of the different types of fib e r optic sensors is reviewed. The Sagnac effect in the fib e r optic gyroscope is described. The theory o f two beam interference from a perfect monochromatic source (ideal source) is discussed and gyroscope output is driven for such a source. Different components and noise sources in the fib e r optic gyroscope are explained. Two beam interference from a non-monochromatic (non-ideal) source is described and i t is shown that gyroscope output depends on the source linewidth
