As a PhD student I explored macroautophagy/autophagy induced by starvation in Drosophila melanogaster using different microscopy techniques. The beauty and complexity of this process impressed me so deeply that I felt the need to paint it. Thus, I made 2 oil paintings based on my own scientific work, representing the autophagy mechanism at different scales with diverse artistic resources. The first painting, called Autophagy 1, is inspired by fluorescence confocal microscopy images. Therefore, saturated colors predominate in the composition.
