Breast cancer is the most incident tumor among the female population, and early detection is key for long-term survival. X-ray mammography is the general approach for the regular monitoring of the breast, but it is uncomfortable and only provides 2D images. Microwave imaging using ultra-wideband radar techniques is an emerging method to replace X-ray mammography. In this paper, we review three most promising architectures of ultra-wideband radar systems, suitable for breast cancer imaging, to highlight the pros and cons in system design, calibrations as well as data processing for breast cancer imaging application
