Current Topicalities of Refugees Youth Employment in Sweden and Nordic Countries (Reflections on Social Work Education in a local and global Context)

The purpose of this article is to problematize and detail how migration issuesdue to the labour market can be linked to social work education in higher educationfrom the perspective of migration and internationalization out of a Swedish (andNordic) context. Migration problems and challenges needs to be seen in a local andglobal context and the education needs to be characterized by this. In social workeducation, migration and internationalization means that one creates conditionsfor cooperation and understanding between the average nations, at home in ourprofessional daily life and abroad through various exchanges in studies, researchand practice, placements. Education in migration creates a deeper cross-borderintegration in which students coming from different cultures and traditions developtheir skills and understanding through different pedagogical and didactic aspects.Migrations issues can thus be said to contain different levels of understanding onpersonal, organizational and societal levels and intervention in relation to knowledgecreation. The language of migration and how we face it is to a high degree incomplete,and how we use terms and words is very much based on our contexts when it comesto the role of metaphors and stigmatization. The main conclusion is that migrationissues in social work education need to be seen in practice as a concept of “actinglocally and thinking globally”, and should be viewed as a major input for developingmigration in higher education and social work education — a Glocal approach
