Through a analysis of the changes in access to the profession of teacher of Classical Languages in Basic and Secondary Education, a brief summary of some of the paths traced is presented from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The history of teacher training in Latin and Greek in Portugal hardly follows a continuous and coherent line, being evident the lack of a strategy aiming at a permanent scientifi c and pedagogical updating of these teachers. The increasing loss of status of these disciplines in the educational system and consequent reduction in the number of students leads to a quasi-lethargic state of Classical Teacher Education and to a small number of Latin and Greek Curricular students in Secondary Educa...
