The purpose of the study was to understand how compensatory health beliefs could determine sedentary behavior among older adults who regularly practice physical activity. Ten elderly (67.8 ± 3.9) were selected and the data were collected through a semistructured interview. Data analysis was performed using an inductive and deductive process. The results showed that the beliefs of the elderly about the negative consequences of sedentary behavior in health conflicted with their behavioral actions, suggesting cognitive dissonance.
