From analyzing the case of the Bolivian State's connection with its emigrants in the period between the democratic recovery in 1982 and the assumption of Evo Morales as president in 2006, this article seeks to problematize from a situated and substantive perspective how the formal and cultural dimensions of delimiting the belonging of the people to the national State interact.
