The effective enforcement of legal rights requires some basic elements to be prevalent in the country. A favorable socio-economic and cultural environment of the country and an accountable government are primary components of ensuring legal rights. This article demonstrates that none of these components exists in Bangladesh; rather, each existing factor erodes the respect for law, leaving a detrimental impact on legal rights. The consequences of these make it more difficult for women to develop the potential requirement for the enjoyment of fundamental rights, and the glaring discriminatory access to economic opportunities ensures their subsidiary status over the course of time.
