As the literature related to academic success factors has focused on traditional students, the phenomenon of adults returning to university in a degree program in Belgium has been continuously growing. Therefore, this thesis begins by highlighting the specific characteristics of this non-traditional student population. Then, it contributes to the identification of the main success factors for adults returning to university, with a particular focus on their motivational and engagement dynamics during their first year of study.
