Fishing has been a traditional occupation of a section of people all over the world from time immemorial. In India, the fisheries sector contributes significantly towards strengthening nutritional security, income, employment, foreign exchange earnings and livelihood opportunities. These facts established the fisheries sector as an important enterprise of Indian economy.
