How to distinguish Hypericum perforatum from morphologically similar hybrids (H. ×desetangsii s. l.) in the region of Aachen and description of a new hybridogenous species

Hypericum perforatum s. str. und morphologisch ähnliche Hybriden (H. ×desetangsii s. l.) werden als Sammel-arten aufgefasst, die jeweils mehrere eng umgrenzte Arten umfassen. Beide Artengruppen werden im Aachener Raum unterschieden anhand strichförmiger dunkler Öldrüsen an der Außenseite der Kronblätter, die H. perforatum s. str. fehlen und bei Hybriden vorhanden sind. Andere morphologische Merkmale und besonders die Ökologie sind ebenfalls Unterschiede beider Gruppen. Ihre Umgrenzung und ihre Entstehung werden disku-tiert. Eine Sippe, die der Verfasser als eine H. perforatum nahestehende Hybride auffasst, wird als neue, hybrido-gene Art H. patzkei zu Ehren des verstorbenen Prof. Dr. ERWIN PATZKE beschrieben, der sie als erster als phäno-logisch und morphologisch abweichendes Taxon erkannt hat. H. patzkei beginnt früh mit der Blüte und kann u. a. anhand schmaler Blätter mit wenigen hellen Öldrüsen, dunklen strichförmigen Öldrüsen an der Außenseite der Kronblätter und einem schmalen Habitus mit spitzwinklig abstehenden Seitenästen unterschieden werden. Die Art ist charakteristischer für offene Stellen in Wäldern und deren Ränder als für trockene, offene Lebensräume, ist aber ökologisch ziemlich variabel. Sie ist bisher bekannt in der Umgebung von Aachen und nahe gelegenen Stellen in Belgien.Hypericum perforatum s. str. and morphologically similar hybrids (H. ×desetangsii s. l.) are treated as aggregate species consisting of some closely related species. These species groups are distinguished in the region of Aachen by striate dark oil glands at the outside of the petals. In H. perforatum s. str. these oil glands are missing, but exist in hybrids. Furthermore, other morphological characters and especially the ecology between both aggregate species is different, too. Circumscription and origin are discussed. One taxon that is morphologically similar to H. perforatum is regarded as a hybrid by the author and described as a new hybridogenous species, H. patzkei, in honor of the late Prof. Dr. ERWIN PATZKE, who recognized it first as phenologically and morphologically separated taxon. H. patzkei flowers early and is characterized by narrow leaves with only a few light oil glands, striate dark oil glands at the outside of the petals and a narrow habit with acute-angled side branches among other things. It grows mostly in open sites in woodlands and its borders than in dry, open habitats, but shows a wide ecological amplitude. Currently it is known in the region of Aachen and adjacent sites in Belgium
