Banana is one of the most important horticultural plants in the world because of its large production potential. Bananas have long been known as a delicious fruit and nutritious for health. Indonesian banana production ranks sixth after India, Ecuador, Brazil, Philippines, and China. Of the banana production produced in Indonesia, 90% is for domestic consumption, while for exports only 10%. The target of banana production in 2005 was 4,707,000 tons, in 2009 it was 6,125,000 tons and in 2025 it was targeted to be 11,266,000 tons.
