The study of electromagnetic (EM) scattering from canonical structures is of prime interest, for the estimation of RCS of complex aerospace structures. Metamaterials exhibit special EM characteristics which may be useful in radar cross section (RCS) control. This motivates the parametric analysis of RCS of metamaterial coated structures. In this paper, an infinitely long PEC cylinder with one and two layers of metamaterial coating is considered. An analytical formulation is derived for the RCS of the coated cylinder, with the EM fields expressed as series summation of cylindrical wave functions. The unknown coefficients are obtained by applying appropriate boundary conditions and far field RCS is computed in terms of scattered field coeffic...
