In this paper, a tracking-error-based control design without feedback passivation stage is developed for the stabilization of physical and chemical nonlinear processes. To achieve control objectives, the system dynamics is first formulated under appropriate conditions as a relaxing (pseudo) port-Hamiltonian (PH) representation with some quadratic storage function, in which the positive semi-definite property of damping matrix may not be taken necessarily into account. Then, a reference trajectory expressed by a certain structure passing through a desired set-point (or containing an optimal profile) is suitably chosen.
