We studied the hemodynamic and metabolic effects of insulin in 10 patients with chronic heart failure and nine healthy controls. The hemodynamic properties of insulin were well preserved in patients with heart failure despite demonstrable insulin resistance. We found no relationship between insulin resistance and several markers of neurohormonal activation, which showed a differentiation between the metabolic and vascular effects of insulin in patients with chronic heart failure and insulin resistance.</p
