We review the basic aspects of the Dark Energy, pointing out the variety of the ideas proposed to explain it, and the connection with the Cosmological Constant Problem in physics. Within the Quintessence scalar field paradigm, we describe the main effects of the dark energy dynamics on the Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies and structure formation, pointing out the capabilities of the next generation intruments probing the cosmic acceleration
