A research on the effectiveness of farmer training and extension studies: The case of Bursa

Bu çalışmada Bursa ilinde, Tarım İl Müdürlüğü tarafından 2000 ve 2001 yıllarında, bitkisel ve hayvansal üretimi geliştirmeye, tarımsal üretimdeki yeni teknikleri çiftçilere benimsetmeye ve verimliliği arttırmaya yönelik olarak düzenlenen kısa süreli (3-5 gün) kursların etkinliği, kurslara katılan çiftçilerden sistematik örnekleme yoluyla seçilmiş 140'ına uygulanan anketlerle değerlendirilmiştir. Böylece çiftçilerin düzenlenen kurslara ilişkin beklentilerinin, tutum ve yaklaşımlarının, ihtiyaçlanmn ve çiftçi gözüyle kursların aksayan yönlerinin tarafsız bir değerlendirme ile dile getirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda çiftçiler; kurs sürelerinin kısa, kurs süresince yapılan pratik uygulamaların yetersiz, kurslarda kullanılan görsel-işitsel malzeme sayısının az olduğunu ve tarımla ilgili güncel konularda daha çok kurs açılması gerekliliğini belirtmişlerdir. Bütün bunlara ilave olarak çiftçiler katıldıkları kurslardan sonra yenilikleri benimseme düzeylerinin, üretimlerindeki verim, masraf, gelir, kalite durumlarının olumlu yönde değiştiğini, kurs veren yayım elemanlarının bilgi düzeyleri ve konu anlatım teknMerinin yeterli düzeyde olduğunu vurgulamışlardır.In this study, the effectiveness of the short courses (3-5 day long), which were organized by the Agricultural Department of Bursa in 2000 and 2001 in order to improve the plant and animal production, to increase the level of adoption of new techniques and to increase the productivity, were evaluated depending on the surveys applied to the sample 140 of farmers who have attended to the courses and were systematically chosen. Thus, the aim of the study is to discuss neutrally the expectations, attitudes, behaviors, needs and the deficiency of the courses from the view point of farmers. According to the results of the research, the farmers have pointed out that the course periods are short, the practical applications are inadequate, the number of visual and auditory equipment is insufficient, and more courses on actual topics should be organized. In addition, the farmers have expressed that their level of adoption has increased, the productivity, cost, income and quality levels have improved, the knowledge level and the teaching techniques of the extension personnel teaching the courses was adequate
