The levirate is a biblical law, a brief but a conclusive norm, which in the legal rabbinical literature has a wide development. The update of the norm demonstrates the complexity of its practice, specially during a period in the rabbinical Judaism. The sages used to obtain an long number of halakot just from one Biblical law.
