Self-injurious behavior has become an increasingly well known phenomenon in today\u27s society. By way of comparing factors leading up to and purposes derived from the self-injurious behavior, this paper compares the life story of one self-proclaimed self-injurer to the stories of 32 other self-injuring women. Based on this comparison is a study of how characteristic the interviewee is of other self-injurers, followed by a theoretical analysis of the causes and functions of self-injurious behavior for the interviewee
