The article analyzes the ideological context and historical circumstances in which Miodrag B. Protić initiated and realized the art-historical systematization of 20thcentury art from the territory of pre- and postwar Yugoslavia. The concept of “Yugoslav” in the syntagm “Yugoslav modern art” is problematized, interpreted here as a polysemy whose meanings were produced by various discourses about Yugoslavism; the effects of those found in Protić’s articulations are mapped and examined.Prispevek analizira ideološki kontekst in zgodovinske okoliščine, v katerih je Miodrag B.
