This article outlines the basic morphological, semantic, and related syntactic characteristics of the usage of the verb biti sem ‘to be, am’ in sixteenth-century standard Slovenian. Based on materials collected for lexicographic purposes, it includes a complete list of all preserved Slovenian printed works from the second half of the sixteenth century.
