Photoluminescence study of annealed SiGe nanoparticles

Þegar agnir eru smækkaðar niður á örsmæðar stærðarkvarða breytist ljós- og raf-hegðunþeirra. Til að rannsaka þessa hegðun voru samsetningar sem innihalda SiGe öragnirframleiddar með segulspætun og hitameðhöndlaðar í framhaldinu. Ljómunarrófin sýna svörun milli 450 og 900 nm þar sem fjölda toppa orsakast af staðbundnum orkuþrepum við samskeytiefnana, ásamt stærðar tengdum áhrifum frá örögnum í sýnunum.Nanoparticles display different optical and electrical characteristics from their bulk coun-terparts due to their small quantum-like sizes. For this purpose, structures of SiGenanoparticles embedded in various oxide matrices (i.e. Si/oxide:SiGeO) fabricated us-ing high power impulse magnetron sputtering. The structure subsequently underwentthermal annealing for time intervals up to two hours in either a rapid thermal processoror conventional furnace. After annealing, the structures were characterized via grazingincidence X-ray diffraction for phase and elemental analysis. The photoluminescence ofthe structures was measured at room temperature and the spectra analyzed. The pho-toluminescence spectra of samples were examined as a function of different crystallinityobtained upon varying annealing parameters. A broad spectral response (450-900 nm) wasobserved with threshold up to 900 nm, with several peaks ascribed to crystal imperfectionand size-related effects of the nanoparticles themselves
