Cloud security using homomorphic encryption

The use of cloud is extensive in today’s world, but there remain various security concerns for using cloud services. The various security concerns for customers of cloud services are isolation or segregation of data, abstraction because of deployment and working of cloud, multitenancy, elasticity, vendor lock-in, service portability, and the location where data are stored. Concerns for cloud service providers are maintaining regulations, management of encryption and decryption keys, generation of the audit logs and people responsible for its management. Some other common concerns are physical attacks, insider attacks, logical storage segregation, management of virtualization layer, network threats, and denial of service. The scope of research is to overcome these security concerns using homomorphic encryption scheme whose implementation has many practical difficulties. This thesis proposes, an approach for security of cloud using a mixed or hybrid encryption. The combination of asymmetric and symmetric cryptographic algorithms is used to overcome the disadvantages of individual cryptographic algorithms. Apart from achieving confidentiality of data, this approach helps in electronic discovery as well. The use of homomorphic encryption helps in processing over encrypted data
