Eosinophilic esophagitis is characterized by the infiltration of eosinophils into the esophagus and is a potential cause of dysphagia and food impaction that generally affects predominantly white children and young adults. It represents a local reaction against allergens to which the patient shows previous sensitization, acquired by digestive, inhalation or even epicutaneous route. The main symptoms of eosinophilic esophagitis are dysphagia and impaction of food in the esophagus due to endoscopic alterations and motor disorders. It is diagnosed with an esophageal biopsy with more than 15 eosinophils per field of greatest increase, and the exclusion of gastroesophageal reflux disease.
