Although they are introduced by Cicero himself as a major piece of his work, Tusculanae Disputationes have created a hermeneutic perplexity since the 19th century. Indeed, everything in this book such as digressions, repetitions, inaccurate references - to Greek philosophers especially-, soliloquized dialog and, more generally, its composition, tends to disconcert strongly rational minds. But as Cicero says, he achieved here philosophia perfecta which links high thoughts to best style and that can also be named with the metaphor : cultura animi.
