Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive incurable neurodegenerative disease with selective loss of lower and upper motoneurons. Dysfunction and destruction of neuromuscular synapses leading to skeletal muscle denervation is one of the early and major events in ALS pathogenesis.
