© 2019 Elsevier B.V. Despite many protocols are proposed for STR analysis of old human remains, the question of preferential DNA source for successful genotyping is still open. Herein we compared STR typing efficiency in DNA samples extracted from different bones: tubular and flat bones, several vertebrae and coccyx from the World War II victim's burials. Partial STR genotypes were obtained from all examined bones but we've got the complete genotypes profile in DNA samples extracted from the specific structure of the 2nd cervical vertebra – odontoid process.
