Spremnost na komunikaciju među učenicima hrvatskih srednjih škola

Willingness to communicate (WTC), which belongs to the area of individual differences (IDs), affects the process and result of second language (L2) learning. The concept of WTC in the second language context attempts to explain why some students choose to communicate in a certain situation- while others refrain from communicating. The aim of this thesis was to examine WTC among Croatian high school learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) and the relationship with L2 anxiety and self-perceived competence. The study was conducted in five high schools in Zadar. The sample consisted of 150 learners in the first, third and fourth year of high school. For the purposes of this study three questionnaires were used. The results revealed that the learners were relatively willing to communicate in the L2 classroom, they reported low levels of anxiety and high levels of self-perceived competence. Furthermore, WTC was positively correlated with self-perceived competence and negatively correlated with L2 anxiety. This supported earlier claims by other studies that WTC is positively affected by the lack of anxiety and high level of self-perceived competence. Teachers should consider these variables when teaching, since the students’ usage of the target language is the goal of foreign language learning.Spremnost na komunikaciju, koja pripada području pojedinačnih razlika među učenicima, utječe na proces i rezultat učenja drugog jezika. Koncept spremnosti na komunikaciju u kontekstu učenja drugog jezika pokušava objasniti zašto neki učenici odluče komunicirati u određenoj situaciji, dok se drugi suzdrže. Cilj ovog rada bio je istražiti spremnost na komunikaciju među srednjoškolskim učenicima Engleskog kao stranog jezika i njenu povezanost sa jezičnom tjeskobom i samoprocjenom vlastitih sposobnosti. Istraživanje je provedeno u pet zadarskih škola. Uzorak se sastojao od 150 učenika prvih, trećih i četvrtih razreda srednjih škola. Za potrebe ovog istraživanja korištena su tri upitnika. Rezultati su pokazali da su učenici bili spremni na komunikaciju na satu stranog jezika, pokazali su nisku razinu jezične tjeskobe te su visoko procijenili vlastite sposobnosti. Nadalje, pokazalo se da je spremnost na komunikaciju pozitivno povezana sa samoprocjenom vlastitih sposobnosti i negativno povezana sa jezičnom tjeskobom. Ovo je potvrdilo prijašnje tvrdnje drugih istraživanja da na spremnost na komunikaciju pozitivno utječe izostanak jezične tjeskobe i pozitivna samoprocjena vlastitih sposobnosti.
