Modulation of the fructooligosaccharide immune response in pacu juveniles (Piaractus mesopotamicus)

Intensifying aquaculture production allows the development of stressful conditions, weakening the immune system of fish. An alternative to the use of chemical and natural substances is immunostimulants. Thus, a modulation of the immune response and the growth of pacu juveniles (P. mesopotamicus) fed with fructooligosaccharides were objectified. One hundred and five animals (49.25 ± 13.77g) were randomly distributed in 12 aquariums (60L; 10 fish / box) and fed for sixty days with feed (PB 32%) containing fructooligosaccharide (FOS) (0.0%, 0.2% and 0.4%) in a completely randomized design (n = 4). At the end of the experimental period, fish fed with 0.2% of FOS showed a higher total count of erythrocytes, leucocytes and total thrombocytes, as well as influence on mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and corpuscular mean hemoglobin (MHC) (P ˂ 0 , 05). Although it has altered these parameters, the fructooligosaccharide had no effect on the leukocyte activity, being considered a modulator of the immune response under the conditions tested.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Intensificar a produção aquícola permite o surgimento de condições estressantes, debilitando o sistema imunológico dos peixes. Uma alternativa para evitar tais danos, e conter o uso de quimioterápicos são os imunoestimulantes. Desta forma, objetivou-se avaliar a modulação da resposta imune e crescimento de juvenis de pacu (P. mesopotamicus) alimentados com frutooligossacarídeos. Cento e vinte animais (49,25 ± 13,77g) foram distribuídos aleatoriamente em 12 aquários (60L; 10 peixes/caixa) e alimentados por sessenta dias com ração (PB 32%) contendo níveis crescentes de frutooligossacarídeo (FOS), (0,0%, 0,2% e 0,4%) em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado (n=4). Ao final do período experimental, os peixes alimentados com dieta contendo 0,2% de FOS apresentaram maior (P ˂0,05) contagem total de eritrócitos, leucócitos e trombócitos, bem como influência sobre os o volume corpuscular médio (VCM) e hemoglobina corpuscular média (HCM) (P ˂0,05). Embora tenha alterado tais parâmetros, o frutooligossacarídeo não apresentou capacidade imunomodulatória nas demais variáveis analisadas, não sendo considerado um modulador da resposta imune nas condições testadas
