This may be due to the rapid urbanisation of traditional black populations, leading to lifestyle changes (i.e. unhealthy diet, increased access to alcohol and a more sedentary lifestyle), which may increase their vulnerability to cardiovascular changes, such as hypertension, increased arterial stiffness and atherosclerosis.
