This article focuses on the polemic nature of Genesis 1-3 and the implications thereof on the reformed doctrine regarding original sin. In the first place the views of the creation narratives as historical-literal and mythological material is discussed. Thereafter the article proposes that the creation narratives must be treated as theological material with a polemic and prophetic purpose.
