This presentation discusses the different roles of religious leaders in peacebuilding processes and their specific understanding of peace. It is based on analysis of 76 in-depth interviews with Catholic, Orthodox, and Muslim religious leaders from Bosnia and Herzegovina, conducted in the period from 2015 to 2017. In the first part, the paper will discuss the notion of peace as a category that combines elements of spirituality (peace needs to be spiritually nourished), praxis (peace needs to be achieved), and as a ‘giftness’ (peace needs to be discovered and freely accepted).
