I.Sicily, Open Scholarship, and the Epigraphic Landscapeof Hellenistic/Roman Sicily

International audienceThis paper presents the development of the I.Sicily digital corpus of the inscriptions of ancientSicily within the context of current debates about open scholarship. The evolution of the I.Sicily projectis situated within the framework of Sicilian epigraphic publication and in turn within the framework ofhumanities publication practices. The approach of the I.Sicily project to open data practices, and the challengeswhich these pose, is examined through two case studies: the first offering a brief survey of Sicilian epigraphicculture in antiquity; the second considering the possibilities such datasets and corpora offer for collaborativeand progressive research.Cet article présente l’évolution du corpus numérique I.Sicily des inscriptions de la Sicile antiquedans le contexte des débats actuels sur l’érudition en libre accès. L’évolution du projet I.Sicily est située dansle cadre des publications d’épigraphie sicilienne et dans celui des pratiques de publication en humanités. Lamanière dont le projet I.Sicily aborde les pratiques liées aux données ouvertes et les défis que posent celles-ciest examinée à travers deux exemples : le premier offre un bref aperçu de la culture épigraphique siciliennedans l’Antiquité, le second considère les possibilités de recherche collaborative et progressive offertes par detels ensembles de données et corpus
