MAKNA SIMBOL NONVERBAL DALAM TRADISI MALE DI KELURAHAN LOLOAN TIMUR KABUPATEN JEMBRANA

This research is about the meaning of nonverbal symbol in the tradition of Male in the village of Loloan Timur. This tradition is carried out for the newborn to cut their hair during the month of Mawlid. The family of the newborn child will make a replica of The Male which containing an egg on the inside. The purpose of this research is to determine the meaning of any nonverbal symbol in this Tradition of Male. The theoretical frameworks that are use in this research are theory of the communication element according to Laswell which refers to the message, then the classification of nonverbal communication according to Deddy Mulyana which refers to artifacts and the time concept as well as Charles Sanders Pierce’s semiotics theory to analyze the nonverbal symbols that exist in the Male tradition. This research is a qualitative research with the type of descriptive analysis and this research is based on a case study. The main focus of this research is to explain the value of the symbolism of eggs, replicas and the time condition in the Male tradition ceremony. Therefore the researcher is trying to get to know some knowledge about the Male tradition, experience, and assessment, these are conducted in order to find the results of nonverbal meaning in the Male Tradition. Data analysis techniques is using the model of Miles, Haberman and Saldana. The result of the research shown the meaning of the nonverbal symbols which hold a meaning of birth that is based on the utilization of nonverbal symbols in the Male Tradition. The nonverbal symbols have a meaning that are refer to birth and life. Starting from the Male eggs which have the meaning of the arrival of birth, the replicas such as boats, mosque and fruit have the meaning of gratitude and prayers, as well as the time of the ceremony held when the prophet’s birthday which has the meaning of a hope for the newborn child to become a human being who could follow the nature and the attitude guide by the prophet’s Muhammad
