Waste rubber tyres were used to prepare activated carbon via destructive distillation method employing a two stage process i.e. carbonization and chemical activation in a tubular furnace. Carbonization was done at 500°C for 1 h followed by impregnation of char with NaOH. Activation was done in a horizontal tube furnace via CO2 activation.
