Agresif periodontitis (AP), erken yaşlarda şiddetli periodontal ataçman kaybı ile karakterize, hızlı ilerleyen bir grup periodontal hastalığı kapsamaktadır. Az rastlanmasına rağmen, etiyolojisi ve patogenezini anlamayı hedefleyen çok sayıda araştırma yapılmıştır. AP oluşumundaki genetik riski belirlemeye yönelik olarak yapılmış, çeşitli aile ve populasyon çalışmaları mevcuttur. AP'de gözlenen ailesel kalıtımı destekleyen genetik geçişi belirlemek amaçlı segregasyon ve linkage analizleri yapılmıştır.
