Evaluating of estimation skill of the elemantary school fifth grade mathematic course program in terms of teachers' views.

The study also aims at developing suggestions in line with teachers' perspectives about acquisition of estimation skill. In this research, a descriptive study was designed as a cross hatching model. There were two techniques used for data collection; which were quantitative and qualitative methods. To begin with, an example of the quantitative research was done in Diyarbakır, in the 2009-2010 of academic year. There were two hundred twenty instructors, teaching the fifth grade and they worked at fifty two elementary schools. The schools were chosen by grouping method. Then, fifty two elementary schools were chosen by the survey. Among those, nine of them was decided as they were easily accessible. In this research, questionnaire forms which were developed by the researcher were used as data gathering instrument. There were three sections. The first section included five questions about personal information about participants. The second section had twenty two questions about earning skill of the estimation (acquisition, activities, methods and techniques, tools, measurement and evaluation) which were included in the mathematic course program. The last section had thirteen questions about acquiring skills of the estimation, aiming to investigate teachers' point of views. The semi-structured interview form including eight questions was developed by the researcher. The interview questions were based on estimation skill; attainment, student activities for acquiring these skills, the changes that estimation skill made on students, on mathematic course and on the classroom atmosphere. Under the direction of the aims of the resarch, those were set that are dissociations of frequency, percentage and mean regarding the opinions of those participants in the application about the estimation skill which is the subject of the research. Descriptive analysis was conducted on the qualitative data. The result of the study showed that teachers said that with activity of estimation skills students learnt to defend self-opinions and they accepted mistakes of selfopinions. Teachers also said that with estimation activities students like mathematic lesson then before. Teachers thought that estimation skills increased students' selfconfidence and helped them to develop their expression skills through interrogating, criticizing, interpreting visuals. The teachers explained that they usually experienced difficulty equipment/class materials and socio-economic status differences among students during their implementation of estimation skill activities.Bu araştırmada matematik dersi öğretim programında yer alan tahmin becerisinin, ilköğretim beşinci sınıf öğretmenlerinin görüşleri doğrultusunda değerlendirilmesi ve bu görüşler doğrultusunda tahmin becerisinin kazanımına ilişkin öneriler geliştirmek amaçlanmıştır. Tarama modelinde betimsel bir çalışma olan bu araştırmada, verileri toplamak amacıyla nitel ve nicel veri toplama teknikleri birlikte kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel veri örneklemini 2009-2010 eğitim öğretim yılında Diyarbakır ilindeki ilköğretim okullarından oransız küme örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen 52 ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan tüm beşinci sınıf öğretmenleri (220) oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın nitel çalışma grubu için amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden biri olan kolay ulaşılabilirlik durum örneklemesi izlenmiş ve anket uygulanan 52 ilköğretim okulundan seçilen dokuz ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan gönüllü on iki öğretmen ile görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın nicel verilerini toplamak amacıyla araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen anket formu üç bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölümde kişisel bilgilere yönelik beş soru, ikinci bölümde Matematik Dersi Öğretim Programı'nda yer alan tahmin becerisinin kazanımına yönelik olarak kazanımlar, etkinlikler, yöntem ve teknikler, araç-gereçler, ölçe ve değerlendirmeye ilişkin 22 soru bulunmaktadır. Üçüncü bölümde ise tahmin becerisinin kazanımına yönelik öğretmenlerin genel görüşlerini saptamaya yönelik ifadeler içeren 13 soru bulunmaktadır. Araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ise, sekiz sorudan oluşmaktadır. Görüşme formu tahmin becerisinin kazanımlarına, öğrencilerin bu becerileri kazanabilmelerine yönelik yapılan çalışmalara, tahmin becerisinin öğrencilerde, matematik dersinde ve sınıf ortamında yaptığı değişikliklere ilişkin sorulardan oluşturmaktadır. Uygulamaya katılan öğretmenlerin, araştırma konusu olan tahmin becerisi ile ilgili görüşlerine ilişkin nicel veriler üzerinde frekans (f), yüzde (%) ve aritmetik ortalama (X ) değerleri hesaplanırken, görüşme yoluyla elde edilen nitel veriler ise betimsel analiz yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, tahmin becerisini kazandırmaya yönelik etkinlikler sırasında öğrenciler kendi fikirlerini savunabilmeyi ve fikirlerindeki yanlış noktaları kabul etmeyi, bununla beraber değişik fikirlere saygı duymayı öğrenmektedirler. Öğretmenler ayrıca öğrencilerin matematik dersine karşı sergiledikleri olumsuz tutumdan sıyrıldıklarını, öğrencilerin farklı bakış açıları geliştirdiklerini, etkinlikler sırasında demokratik bir sınıf ortamının oluştuğunu, tahmin becerisine yönelik etkinliklerin öğrencinin kendine olan güvenini arttırdığını ve iletişim becerilerini geliştirdiğini ifade etmişlerdir. Öğretmenler tahmin becerisine yönelik uygulanan etkinliklerde, zaman eksikliği, araç-gereç yetersizliği, öğrenciler arasında bulunan sosyo-ekonomik farklılıklardan ve araç-gereçlerin temini konusunda sıkıntı yaşadıkları konularında hemfikir olmuşlardır
